چکیده

One of the research areas of the Signal Processing group at the Eindhoven University of Technology is in adaptive array signal processing. It is concerned with the application of adaptive signal processing techniques to the outputs of a spatially distributed array of sensors. The power of these techniques lies in the possibility of achieving improvements in directivity and measured Signalto-Noise Ratio (SNR) as compared to that attainable with a single input sensor. The spatial dimensions introduced by processing a distributed array of sensors allow directional discrimination of signals against interference. Sensor arrays are used in many applications including radar, sonar, seismology and tomography [5]. Most of these applications use the fact that the used signals are band limited and that the sources are so far away that at the sensors they can be treated as a flat wavefront. In many (certainly ’in-the-house’) audio applications these narrowband and far field assumptions certainly do not hold. Mianly due to the vast increase of available computational power, commercial applications of array processing advanced audio systems have become feasible in recent years. Recently two PhD thesis [4, 11] have been successfully completed in the Signal Processing group in which adaptive array processing techniques were applied to audio applications. The work of [11] was focused around a part of the

Full-Duplex Systems for Sound Field Recording and Auralization Based on Wave Field Synthesis

For high-quality multimedia communication systems such as telecollaboration or virtual reality applications, both multichannel sound reproduction and full-duplex capability are highly desirable. Full 3D sound spatialization over a large listening area is offered by wave field synthesis, where arrays of loudspeakers generate a prespecified sound field. However, before this new technique can be u...

Active listening room compensation for massive multichannel sound reproduction systems using wave-domain adaptive filtering.

The acoustic theory for multichannel sound reproduction systems usually assumes free-field conditions for the listening environment. However, their performance in real-world listening environments may be impaired by reflections at the walls. This impairment can be reduced by suitable compensation measures. For systems with many channels, active compensation is an option, since the compensating ...

Advanced Applications for Multichannel Teleconferencing Audio Systems

This thesis deals with advanced digital signal processing techniques applied to multichannel teleconferencing audio systems, focusing on their benefits and drawbacks. A teleconferencing system should provide a realistic representation of visual and sound fields, allowing a natural communication among participants anywhere in the world as they were all in the same room. In this context, the work...

Multichannel Transform Domain Adaptive Filtering: a Two Stage Approach and Illustration for Acoustic Echo Cancelation

System identification is the underlying mechanism of adaptive filtering algorithms in the context of acoustic echo cancelation systems. Multichannel system identification is subject to specific problems emerging from spatio-temporal couplings in the input signals of the adaptive filter. This paper presents a generic multichannel transformdomain adaptive filtering approach. It is based upon a tw...

Multichannel recursive-least-square algorithms and fast-transversal-filter algorithms for active noise control and sound reproduction systems

In the last ten years, there has been much research on active noise control (ANC) systems and transaural sound reproduction (TSR) systems. In those fields, multichannel FIR adaptive filters are extensively used. For the learning of FIR adaptive filters, recursive-least-squares (RLS) algorithms are known to produce a faster convergence speed than stochastic gradient descent techniques, such as t...
